Pregnancy -Baby Myth from Bangka, Indonesia

When it comes to pregnancy, you will heard lots of people's opinion. Some may makes you happy to hear that but some may put you down while hormones makes you emotionally unbalance. It makes happy when they said 'congrats' or other positive things but some word may scared you. For more when you heard something insane like a myth. You'll probably said 'oh really?'

More than half of Indonesian live by myth. Believe on something which has no correlation acts could be danger to your womb. I don't know the entire pregnancy myth in Indonesia. But here some myth I have heard while stay in Bangka Island, Indonesia.

1. Don't twist your towel over your head after bath. It could makes the umbilical cord twisted you baby.
2. Don't start in the middle of door. It could makes your baby's head stuck while labor. In fact, standing in the middle of door could harm you if someone in rush and crash you or because door is the biggest airflow hole in the house, you could inhale outside viruses.
3. Corset will make your postpartum belly small faster. In fact, exercise are needed to make your separated abdominal muscle come together again. It has nothing to do with the corset.
4. Wear 'gurita bayi' for your baby so she/he had no big/gassy belly. In fact 'gurita bayi' is not recommended to use because infant breath by their abdomen. Gassy belly could reduced by burping the baby often, especially after feeding.
5. Straightening infant leg while swaddling will avoid clubbing foot. In fact, thight swaddling in leg area may caused hyp dysplasia.
6. Rubbing some honey in the lips will makes his lips shiny. In fact, infant may swallowed bacteria called clostridium botulinum which is dangerous.
7. Giving water is good. In fact, under six months old baby who swallowed water could interfere their body to absorb the nutrients in breast milk.

This myths bothering me a lot in the fast. But now I can deal with it. Myth is exist in our daily life. But as long as I knew the truth I have no dare to at least implement them to my life. I have no regret to share my experiences. I will believe what makes sense to me and stand for the right.
